Terms of Use

Effective October 2026.

These terms explain how Prosebound works and what we each promise. Creating an account or writing in Prosebound means you accept them. We've kept them as short and readable as we can.

1. Your writing is yours

You own everything you write, upload or import into Prosebound. We claim no ownership of it. You give us only the limited permission we need to run the service for you: storing your work, showing it to you, making the exports you ask for, and showing it to beta readers you choose to share it with. We will never sell your work, and we will never use your manuscripts or personal information to train AI models.

2. What Prosebound is

Prosebound is online writing software for planning and writing books: manuscripts, characters, world-building, plotting and beta-reader sharing in one place. It's currently in beta. Your work is stored securely online so you can reach it from any device you sign in on.

3. Your account

You need an account to use Prosebound. If you're under 13, please don't create an account. You can sign up with an email and password or with Google. Keep your login details to yourself; you're responsible for what happens under your account. If you think someone else has got into it, change your password and tell us at support@prosebound.com.

4. Beta software, provided “as is”

Prosebound is in active development. It's provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. Features may change, appear or disappear, and things may occasionally break. We work hard to protect your writing, but we can't promise the service will be uninterrupted or error-free. Please export a copy of anything you can't afford to lose.

5. Price and the Founding Tester Rate

Prosebound is free during the beta. The beta is planned to end in early 2027, when paid plans begin at $9/month or $80/year.

Everyone who creates an account during the beta can lock in the Founding Tester Rate: $5/month or $60/year, for life. Here's how it works:

  • We'll email you at least 30 days before the beta ends, and send reminders along the way.
  • To lock in the rate, choose a plan and add your payment details before the beta ends. You keep the rate for as long as your plan stays active.
  • If you don't choose a plan before the beta ends, the offer expires.
  • If you cancel your plan later, the offer expires too. If you come back, you'll pay the regular rate.
  • Accounts created after the beta ends pay the regular rate.

You'll never be charged unless you choose a plan and enter your payment details yourself.

6. Your manuscripts are yours, forever

We will never hold your writing hostage. Exporting your work is always free, whether or not you have a plan. If your account doesn't have an active plan (because the beta ended and you didn't choose one, or because you canceled a paid plan):

  • Your account becomes export-only. You can still sign in, read everything and export all of your work in any format. You just can't write or edit until you choose a plan.
  • Export-only access lasts 12 months. Choose a plan at any point in that time and everything is exactly as you left it.
  • We'll email you 60, 30 and 7 days before the 12 months are up, each time with a link to export everything.
  • After 12 months, your account and your work are permanently deleted.

7. Sharing with beta readers

When you create a beta-reader link, anyone with that link can read what you've shared until you turn the link off. Only share links with people you trust. You can switch a link off at any time.

8. Exporting, deleting and leaving

You can export your work at any time as DOCX, PDF, EPUB, Markdown or plain text, with or without a plan (see section 6). Deleted projects and chapters go to the Trash, where you can restore them for 60 days before they're erased for good. You can delete your whole account from the Account page; this immediately and permanently erases your account, every project (including anything in the Trash) and your uploaded images. It can't be undone, so export first.

9. Acceptable use

  • Use Prosebound only in ways that are legal where you live.
  • Only upload content you have the right to use.
  • Don't try to break, overload, or get unauthorized access to Prosebound or other people's accounts.
  • Don't use beta-reader links to distribute content that isn't yours.

We may suspend or close accounts that seriously or repeatedly break these rules. Where we can, we'll warn you first and give you a chance to export your work.

10. Services we rely on

Prosebound runs on trusted providers: Supabase (database, file storage and sign-in) and Vercel(hosting). If you sign in with Google, Google's own terms also apply to that. What each provider receives is explained in our Privacy Policy.

11. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, Prosebound isn't responsible for indirect or consequential losses (for example lost writing, lost data or lost income) that come from using Prosebound or from it being unavailable. If you ever have a claim against us, the most we can owe you is the amount you paid for Prosebound in the 12 months before it. Some places limit how far terms like this can go; where that's true, this section applies as far as the law permits.

12. The Prosebound name

“Prosebound” and the quill logo belong to Prosebound. These terms don't give you any right to use them, except to refer to the product.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as Prosebound grows. The effective date above will change when we do, and we'll email you about any important change. Continuing to use Prosebound after a change means you accept the updated terms.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, USA. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest still applies.
